broken glass 2

Repairs can be a challenge.

I’m sure you’ve seen the cartoon of a dignified matron walking down the sidewalk, spring chapeau all crisp, prim and proper, tiny poodle on a leash, nose in the air – and the back of her dress caught up in the waistband of her girdle.

That’s pretty close to how I felt at 10PM last night (well, minus the prim proper dress and chapeau, replace the tiny poodle with a constantly talking Tuxedo tabby, take the nose down a notch – I’m pretty short).

Breaking the ice

I say 10PM because that’s when I discovered, quite by accident, that the brand new Plus Size 411, and Plus Size Mall, and Fast Find, and all the other departments I’d been working on, couldn’t be displayed by 95% of the web browsers out there in browserland.  Not even my old faithful trusty Safari, freshly upgraded to Snow Leopard level, could figure out what to do with the layout. Instead, like all browsers but Firefox Mac 3.5.sumthin’, it settled for tossing it against a nearby wall and watching the pieces slide down.

About 4:30 AM I finally got the last bit of CSS goo cleaned off the walls. The site can be viewed by almost anyone. Note that word ALMOST. I can’t test the site on the browser including the one your 14-year-old neighbor kid wrote last weekend just for fun.

Moral of the story:  Just because it looks like it works doesn’t mean it does.  And that nice cool breeze could mean someone’s getting quite a show.

I could use some feedback.  Does the site look ok to you?
