You shop, I shop, we all shop. Many of us do our grocery and household shopping in local supermarkets and department stores. When we walk out the door with our purchases, they’re often contained in something plastic – a shopping bag.
Here are two simple things you can do to help:
First: If you use the store’s bags, turn them inside out when you get home. Air them out, then put them in a box in your car. When you shop again, grab a handful and take them into the store with you. Repeat while the bags are still solid enough to stand up to a load of groceries. Recycle the ones that are torn or worn.
Second: Get your own bags. Net or cloth bags work extremely well and last a lot longer than the store’s bags. Keep a set in your car, aired and clean and ready to use.
Sanity Check: Think outside the box when it comes to ‘disposable’ items like plastic bags, toilet paper rolls, paper towel centers. What’s clutter in your trash bin can be repurposed and used long beyond its original function. Check out this extremely creative lady’s page for a few starter ideas.
